Last Monday, Pre-Primary and Primary School students and teachers were treated to rousing performances of “Olivia!” by students from “Musical Extravaganza!” CCA. The musical, based on the novel “Oliver Twist” by Charles Dickens, and the hit 1968 movie “Oliver!”, follows the story of an orphan trapped in an orphanage - workhouse. Olivia runs away and meets a fellow orphan and pickpocket, “The Artful Dodger”, on the streets, who takes Olivia into her band of thieves. The gang of thieves is lead by a woman named Fagin, who takes in orphan children and teaches them how to pick pockets for a living. Under the direction of Sarah Thomas, Terry Moran and Krystin Holland, the students portrayed the characters’ bravery, honesty, villainy and humour in an entertaining way.
The audience was captivated by the twists and turns of the story and relieved by the happy ending. The show didn’t happen overnight. The students and teachers worked incredibly hard all year long to produce this entertaining performance. The talent that we have in our student body is truly amazing. It was great!
