On Saturday, 26 May, the 1st GESS Basketball Invitational Tournament (BIT) took place and proved beyond doubt that shooting hoops is a beloved activity within our school. Young basketballers from international schools all over Singapore came together, supporters filled the sitting gallery and excitement peaked. So it was only the tip of the iceberg that our GESS teams played extraordinarily well in all four age group tournaments:
12U Boys: In a nail-biting gold medal match between GESS and Australian School, it all came down to the last possession. Eventually, our boys kept the upper hand with only a one-point margin. Gold for GESS. Great job!
14U Girls: The girls’ tournament was a close-fought and very exciting competition. Team GESS delivered a superb performance, and it was not at all apparent that many of the players had started this year’s CCA programme as basketball newbies. Only the St. Joseph’s Team remained superior, and our girls went home with well-deserved silver medals.
14U Boys: The team from St. Joseph’s Institution dominated this tournament and showed off some outstanding basketball skills. But the remaining three teams, too, showed strong performances and GESS came in third place, winning bronze medals.
16U Boys: With the “big boys” taking over the court, a fast-paced, action-packed event developed. All participating teams faced each other at eye level and gave their very best. The French School came through victoriously, with our GESS boys close behind in second place.
The feedback from all participants and spectators was overwhelmingly positive. Hence, we would like to extend the gratitude to everybody who has helped to make this event a great success. A special thanks is due to our outstanding GESS Support Crew!
Thank you all, and let’s go for the 2nd GESS BIT next year!
