I hope you enjoyed the long weekend at the end of April/beginning of May. On PD Day on 2 May, our teachers worked on making themselves familiar with a new Learning Management System. This contains functionalities for attendance taking, curriculum planning, creating report cards, pastoral care, and information of any kind. We are very much looking forward to working with the new programme.
The European Union Film Festival will start this week and GESS is the main sponsor again. Do not miss the opportunity to visit one or more events during the occasion of the EUFF and watch a movie.
On 4 May, the director of the movie contribution from Austria, Miriam Unger, visited GESS. The movie “Fly away home“ was screened, and this was followed by a discussion about the movie with our students. It was a great experience for them to interact with the filmmaker.
The written exams of our IB Diploma students are in full swing. So far, we have received positive feedback from our future graduates so we can be optimistic about receiving good results in July 2018.
I will be very happy to welcome some of you who are interested in literature to my lecture on 23 May about Günter Grass‘ novel „Crabwalk“. I have compiled a programme, which contains extracts from the book, interpretive approaches and pictures as well as historical maps and extracts from the movie “Nacht fiel über Gotenhafen“. The novel is about the greatest tragedy in maritime history, the sinking of the ship “Wilhelm Gustloff“ in January 1945 with more than 10,000 people on board.
I wish you and your family a nice week.
