Basketball: Gold for GESS! Our 12U ballers have been flying through the league with excellent performances week in and week out. On Thursday, a dominating victory over Singapore American School gave GESS the first place in this division with a comfortable lead. Big congratulations! This week, the team will have the great possibility to finish Season 2 with straight wins.
Badminton: In the 11U girls’ inaugural season, our team has shown fantastic character and resilience, bouncing back from a heavy 0:5 defeat (against NPS) to win two games 4:1 (UWC) and 5:0 (Stamford). Yet, the icing on the cake (see photo) was certainly Tuesday's hard-fought victory against CIS (4:1) with one player, Ella Nasemann, fighting back to win from one set down. The girls finished in the runners-up spot in Division 2, taking home the silver medal. Way to go, girls! And the boys? Stay tuned for big news in next week’s GESS Weekly!
Volleyball: The 14U boys’ team was once again in good shape when facing Singapore American School for a final showdown. Great team spirit was the key for a 2:1 victory in this last game. The final ranking in Division 1 is still pending but it has certainly been a successful season, no matter what. Our girls’ team, in the meantime, will host UWC East this upcoming Thursday, 8 February (4:45 PM at GESS Sports Hall) for their bronze medal game. Come and support!
Swimming: On 27 January, Maya Roepke, Julia Phan, Moritz Wagner and Niklas Karbaum represented GESS at the 2018 ACSIS Middle School Swim Championships. It was a perfectly sunny Saturday morning at Nexus International School with great swim competitions. Coach Teichert was very impressed with all our swimmers’ performance in this highly competitive event. Moritz and Maya even managed to win their respective heats (50m breaststroke and 50m butterfly) with new personal bests. Kudos to the entire GESS Swim Team!
