ACSIS Week 3 of Season 1 was eventful for our school athletes. Our GESS volleyball, football and badminton teams faced their opponents from other international schools in Singapore and represented GESS in great fashion.
Our volleyball 16U girls entered the competition in Division 1, but faced an unfortunate defeat against a strong team from Australian International School. 22:25; 25:21; 20:25; 16:25 was the final score of this high-class volleyball game. The 19U girls, too, encountered a tough opponent on Monday, fought well, but also lost in 1 to 3 sets against the Japanese Waseda Shibuya School. On the other hand, the 19U boys put up an astounding performance and wrestled down Singapore American School in five long and nail-biting sets: 3:2 for GESS!
The football 16U boys had to play two away games last week and managed to win both, continuing their outstanding performance in ACSIS’ top league so far. A close but well-deserved 3:2 victory over Canadian International School was followed by an impressive 4:2 win against St. Joseph’s Institute International. Way to go, boys! Meanwhile, our 19U boys struggled in the first half against Waseda Shibuya on Tuesday and eventually lost 1:2.
In the case of badminton, many of our 14U girls took part in their first competitive match on Wednesday, and that after only one practice session so far. Yet, the girls showed no sign of fear or nervousness in a close match against Chatsworth International School. They started well by winning the first two singles but eventually got defeated in the third single and both doubles. The 14U boys, on the other hand, had their first match on Friday and celebrated a convincing 5:0 debut win over Nexus International School.
