The GESS Association
The German European School Singapore Association is a private body whose main purpose is to maintain and enhance the interests of GESS. Most members of the Association are parents of GESS students.
The Association is managed by a Board of Governors. The Board provides strategic direction and develops long-term goals for the school to ensure that our students and teachers have the tools and infrastructure required for a high-quality education and learning experience.
The Board works closely with the school management, which is responsible for the day-to-day running of the school. The Board has overall financial responsibility for the school.
All Board members are non-executive, working on an honorary basis. The Board has ten members, eight of whom are elected by the members of the Association at the annual general meeting, and two of whom are appointed by the Board.
Why become a member of the GESS Association?
One of the most important tasks in our society is to provide the best environment and opportunities for the development and learning of our children.
Because the Association performs a key role in setting the strategic direction and long-term goals of the school, we encourage you as parents to join the Association and participate in making some of these key decisions that influence your children’s education.
At general meetings of the Association, the Board informs members about important issues relating to the school and your children’s education. We encourage members to contribute their ideas and participate in discussions at these meetings, to help enhance the development of GESS. Importantly too, as a member of the Association you are entitled to vote on major decisions concerning the school. Important decisions made at previous general meetings include the establishment of the European Section as well as the new Dairy Farm campus. So you can have a say in the strategic direction of the school. Members also elect the Association’s Board of Governors at general meetings.
Membership of the Association is now free, and we encourage all parents to join and contribute to the development of the Association and GESS.
How can I become even more involved?
If you would like to participate more actively in the work of the Association, whether for a specific project or by becoming a member of the Board of Governors, please do not hesitate to contact any of the Board members.
