Student Support Services is a specialised intervention programme that exists to support students who have barriers to learning. The programme is implemented by qualified teachers who possess specialised knowledge and skills. The main goal is to help students reach their full potential and the departments aim to do so through a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) for academic, behavioural and social-emotional. The various sections within the Student Support Services can be contacted via email as follows:

School Counsellor

The GESS School Counsellors offer a friendly, professional point of support for our students. They also help students with personal, emotional and social development. There is always a qualified school counsellor on campus during school hours, available to help children on an ad hoc or regular basis by appointment, either individually or in groups. Our counsellors assist in the delivery of a Child Protection Curriculum and “bully-proofing” programme through class-based lessons.

Teachers might refer students to counsellors to resolve personal conflicts, or to talk about anxious or sad feelings that might arise from a wide range of factors, including moving schools or countries, divorce, friendship issues, or learning challenges.

School counselling is confidential, respectful, and appreciative. It follows a resource- and solution-oriented approach and provides help for self-help. The services are voluntary and free of charge.

Location: Student Services office in block E, level 3.

School Counselor European Section:
Tomas Bown (E309)
Phone: +65 6461 0811

My name is Tomas Bown and I am the new School Counselor in the European section. I grew up in Austria and Chile but lived in the USA with my family before coming to Singapore 3 years ago. We have 2 wonderful children that are 8 and 11.

Please know that you can always come and talk to me about anything that is on your heart or mind. We have a welcoming space for you at level 3 in the Student Service Center. Let’s continue a kind and mindful atmosphere here at GESS.

I look forward to seeing you!

School Counselor German Section:
Jennifer März (E308)
Phone: +65 6461 0893

My name is Jennifer März and I have been the School Counsellor of the German Section at GESS since 2013.

In my work as a school counsellor, I am primarily there for you students: You can always come to me if you have problems or issues that you don't want to discuss with friends, teachers, or parents. Sometimes it needs an outsider with "professional glasses" who sees things differently. With me you can exchange or develop ideas or just talk. Of course, teachers or parents can also contact me if there is something that worries them.

Be good to yourself! And others ♡

School Counselor German Section - Secondary School:
Enrico Fabian (E310)

I believe in an exchange on equal footing and am excited to meet you in person and see the world with all its ups and down from your perspective.

School Song

In 2006 our very popular school song "Roots and Wings" was created by our Head of Music, Mr. Terry Moran. The German Lyrics were written by Mr. Jürgen Völker.

Student Buddy

All new students in Primary and Secondary are paired with another student from the same homeroom class. The Student Buddy will look after new students and show them where to go and what to do and introduce them to their new classmates. The Student Buddy programme is a great way to make friends!

Students can ask their homeroom teacher to find out who their student buddy is.

Student Council

The Student Council is elected on an annual basis by the students and represents the voice and opinion of all GESS students. It is supported by the school's liaison teachers. The Student Council can be contacted at

University & Career Counselling

The GESS University and Careers Counselling team advises and supports students (in both sections) throughout high school as they prepare for higher education and subsequent career pathways.

An important part of our work is to focus on practical university application and gap year planning matters: this includes course and university selection, learning about application systems, writing personal statements, interview preparation and exploring gap year possibilities. Equally important is our work to help students prepare for their transition from GESS to university (or an alternative pathway). Classes, workshops, practical sessions and events aim to develop the students’ understanding of this significant step at the end of their high school career.
