Learning Approach

Our Pre-School curriculum is inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy of education and built on the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP). It provides a framework of core skills, knowledge, concepts and opportunities for children to take action based on their learning.

Understanding your child

One of the driving forces behind our pedagogy is our image of a child. We believe all children are curious and have an innate desire to know about their world. They are powerful and unique learners who use many ways to develop their own understanding. We understand that relationships are at the core of learning and strive to promote positive relationships with and between all members of the learning community. We understand the impact a thoughtfully designed leaning environment can play in children developing agency and taking ownership over their own learning.

meaningful learning engagements

Skillful teachers create meaningful learning engagements to give children opportunities to express their learning and ideas through many different mediums (100 languages) to become life-long learners. Both classroom teachers and specialist teachers work together to integrate the various learning areas (maths, language, personal and social development, science, the arts) during a child’s day through guided inquiry and play.

Children engage in 4 units of inquiry over the school year, they inquire into big ideas, asking questions, researching to find out more and taking action on what they have learnt.

A Day in Kindergarten

Learning happens in a variety of different ways throughout the day. Our timetables offer a great amount of flexibility that allow us to connect with and build upon children’s needs and interests.

Like all schools in Singapore, GESS has a dress code. Students are to remain in school uniform for the entire school day, when on campus after school, as well as, during school trips, unless taking part in a CCA that requires a specific alternative attire.

All items of the GESS uniform are embroidered with the GESS logo. The full uniform is available at the GESS school shop.

GESS has a local school transport provider, who provides coverage of the main island of Singapore. All seats in every bus are fully equipped with safety belts and there are bus attendants on board. The children will be picked up at your home and brought back safely to your doorstep every day or to the nearest possible pick up point around your house. In addition, the school bus service also offers home drop-off after the Co-Curricular Activities (CCA). Registration for bus service can be done directly upon school registration, but is possible at any other time as well.
