What is the cut-off date and grade placement system?

GESS places students based on their age as of the 31 July of the year of entry. Please visit the entry requirements page to view the grade placement table. If you are not sure about your child's grade placement, complete this form to receive a personalised grade placement and school fee breakdown by email.

Please note GESS follows a 12 year system which is different from the 13 year system used by British curriculum schools. Below is a comparison table of the two systems.

My child can't speak German, can they join GESS?

Your child can join the English International Baccalaureate (IB) Curriculum stream of the school where German is the official second language and is taught at different levels from beginner to mother tongue.

Do you have waiting lists?

We do have waiting lists in some grades. If a grade is full, please submit an application to reserve your child's space in the waiting list and we will inform you as soon as a space becomes available. When a space becomes available, you will need to complete payment within 3 days of the space being offered.

Does my child have to learn German?

In the International Baccalaureate (IB) stream, German is the second language students study from Grade 1 to 10. The only exception is in Primary School, Grade 1 to 5, whereby students in the Danish Mother Tongue programme study Danish instead of German.

Do you offer Mandarin or other languages?

Please click the button people for an overview of the language programmes at GESS.

Can my child study at GESS on a short-term basis?

Yes, students can study at GESS on a short-term basis from 1 to 6 months. If your child requires a Student Pass visa, you must apply at least 8 weeks before the planned start date. Please note that short-term fees must be paid in full before starting school. Short-term fees can be found under School Fees.

How long does it take to apply?

As long as all the required documents and forms are submitted, it should take 7 days to complete the admissions process. In some cases, additional letters or testing may be required.

My child is Singaporean or has dual-nationality, can they study at GESS?

Where one parent is Singaporean or your child is a Singaporean dual-nationality passport holder and applying for Grade 1 and above, approval to study at GESS must be given by the Ministry of Education. You will need to submit additional documentation and your GESS Admissions officer will help you with this.

My child needs a Student Pass visa, can you help?

Yes, our school can issue Student Passes.

Do you have a school bus service?

KAL Transport provides a door-to-door school bus service to most areas in Central and West Singapore. For the East Coast and Sentosa, there are centralised pick-up points. We strongly advise that you check with the School Bus office before finalising where you will live.

Do you have boarding facilities?

We do not have boarding facilities at the campus. Students aged between 13 and 18 years of age may use the boarding facilities provided by Oldham Hall.

Do you offer scholarships?

At present we do not offer scholarships. School fees for students in the German Curriculum stream are subsidised by the German government. A third sibling discount of 50% of the Development Levy is available.
