Senior Management Team

The GESS Senior Management consists of the Principal, the General Manager, the Director of Marketing and Admissions, the Director of Human Resources, the Director of Technology as well as the academic Section Heads of the German Curriculum Stream, IB Curriculum Stream and the Preschool Department. They lead the school and work together with all employees to translate the school's mission into action and ensure that our strategic educational as well as organisational goals are achieved.

Education:
First and second State Examination for High School teaching in the subjects Latin, catholic theology and sports at the University Tübingen, Germany, state recognised clerk and youth educator, traineeship in radio broadcasting, graduate of the leadership academy of the state of Baden-Württemberg and trainer license of the German volleyball association.

Work experience and professional focus:

Christof Martin was principal of the Friedrich-Schiller-Gymnasiums in Marbach am Necker for six years before he joined GESS in 2019. He was a principal at the Königin-Katharina-Stift Stuttgart and the German School “Colegio Aleman” in Quito, Ecuador, with a Kindergarten, Primary School and High School as well as a business vocational school. As the leader of the catholic educational centre St. Kilian Heilbronn, Mr. Martin was significantly involved in developing the school centre with four streams, Primary School and the three levels of German High School (Hauptschule, Realschule and Gymnasium). He was an advisor for youth-related fundamental questions at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport in Stuttgart and worked as a consultant at the Regional Council Stuttgart in the department High Schools (Gymnasium) with focus on general education.

Mr. Martin has an open-door policy and places a special emphasis on pedagogical development. Due to his great experience, he is a valuable speaker for professional development in Germany as well as abroad since 2005 and trains future principals through lectures and supports them with coaching and shadowing projects.

Mr. Martin speaks German (mother tongue), English and Spanish, as well as French and during his theology studies he learned Greek and Hebrew and studied Latin until the second State Exam.

André Beinert

Teaching degree for secondary schools in Mathematics and Physics (University of Dortmund, Germany / Teacher Training Seminar Münster, Germany), Certificate of International School Leadership (The Principals’ Training Centre, London, UK), Master of Arts in School Management (University of Kiel, Germany)

Work experience and professional focus:
Having joined GESS in 2002 as a Mathematics and Physics teacher, Mr. Beinert has hold various positions at GESS since then, including Head of High School and timetable coordinator. While he was a founding faculty member of the European Curriculum Stream and has taught various IB courses since then, Mr. Beinert is heading the German Section of GESS since 2009. Being part of the Project Management Team that planned and executed the Dairy Farm Campus project from the very first day, his professional interests naturally include designing teaching and learning spaces but also on a much broader scheme Educational Technology and 21st Century Learning and what really matters in today’s and future school education. Not only as a father of two teenagers in a German-French family he is still on a steep learning curve every day.

Work experience and professional focus:
Mrs Noorduijn joined GESS from the International School of Geneva and has a great deal of experience in the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum. She has formally worked for the International Baccalaureate regional office in Geneva and in schools in Turkey and Portugal. Mrs Noorduijn was born in the Netherlands and educated in Holland, England and France. She speaks English, French and Dutch and has learnt Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and Turkish. She truly has an international perspective and has a personal understanding of the issues that third culture children experience.

Emma Horsey

Education:
Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Educations (BECS), University of Melbourne, Australia

Work experience and professional focus:
Born and educated in Melbourne Victoria, Emma Horsey has been teaching for 20 years in Early Childhood, holding posts in IB and international schools in Melbourne, Bangkok, Zurich and Singapore as a teacher and leader.

Emma joined GESS as the Preschool PYP coordinator and then moved onto Deputy Head of Preschool before taking on the role of Head of Preschool this academic year.

She is committed to working in partnership with families, passionate about play and inquiry as a means through which young children best learn and enjoy working in a vibrant international community.

Work experience and professional focus:
Maclean has 10 years of experience in the international education sector. He has held senior positions with two Australian universities and handled their strategic marketing and admissions functions. He is committed to improve service standards within his department in order to achieve the school’s strategic plans and brand vision.

Helena Santos

Work experience and professional focus:
Helena Santos is an experienced HR leader and a Senior Certified HR Professional (SHRM – SCP) with over 20 years of experience and key awards - HR European Award 2011 from the EAPM and the HR Manager of the Year 2014 from the HR Magazine – under her belt. Given her strong education background and extensive experience across the education, insurance, telecom and consumer goods industries, Helena brings to GESS varied perspectives on how best to maximize the potential of GESS’ greatest assets – the people. She is committed to sustainable people practices and helping, supporting and mentoring others with passion, sensitivity and care. She is also passionate about bringing kindness into leadership. Prior to joining GESS, Helena was most recently the Head of HR, Asia Pacific, International Baccalaureate.

Julian Keith

  • Professional Diploma in Marketing with Digital Strategy

Work experience and professional focus:
Julian originally started his career in the classroom in 2004, moving to Indonesia to teach English. The experience and interaction with students and parents led to a career in international education, including working as a Centre Director for the world’s largest education group. In 2017, he joined GESS as Head of Admissions before taking up the Director of Marketing and Admissions position.

His goal is to ensure that our school delivers a best in class marketing and admissions experience for our new families.

Mike Kewelar

Professional degree as Administrative Officer in Public Service

Work experience and professional focus
Mike has been working in Technology since 1993. After moving to Singapore in 2008, he worked as a project manager at Siemens IT Solutions. Before starting at GESS, he was the Director of Information Technology at the Singapore American School for nine years.

He believes that Technology serves as a dynamic tool for learning that optimizes productivity, connectivity, collaboration, and creativity. His goal is to ensure that students and teachers have access to the latest educational models and resources to support teaching and learning.
