Academic Board

The Academic Management of GESS consists of the Principal, the Head of the German Curriculum Stream and the Head of the IB Curriculum Stream. Its members run the school and work hand-in-hand to put GESS's mission statement into practice and to ensure the fulfillment of educational and organisational goals.

CHRISTOF MARTIN

Principal

Education:
First and second State Examination for High School teaching in the subjects Latin, catholic theology and sports at the University Tübingen, Germany, state recognised clerk and youth educator, traineeship in radio broadcasting, graduate of the leadership academy of the state of Baden-Württemberg and trainer license of the German volleyball association.

Work experience and professional focus:
Christof Martin was principal of the Friedrich-Schiller-Gymnasiums in Marbach am Necker for six years before he joined GESS in 2019. He was a principal at the Königin-Katharina-Stift Stuttgart and the German School “Colegio Aleman” in Quito, Ecuador, with a Kindergarten, Primary School and High School as well as a business vocational school. As the leader of the catholic educational centre St. Kilian Heilbronn, Mr. Martin was significantly involved in developing the school centre with four streams, Primary School and the three levels of German High School (Hauptschule, Realschule and Gymnasium). He was an advisor for youth-related fundamental questions at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport in Stuttgart and worked as a consultant at the Regional Council Stuttgart in the department High Schools (Gymnasium) with focus on general education.

Mr. Martin has an open-door policy and places a special emphasis on pedagogical development. Due to his great experience, he is a valuable speaker for professional development in Germany as well as abroad since 2005 and trains future principals through lectures and supports them with coaching and shadowing projects.

Mr. Martin speaks German (mother tongue), English and Spanish, as well as French and during his theology studies he learned Greek and Hebrew and studied Latin until the second State Exam.

Work experience and professional focus:
Mrs Noorduijn joined GESS from the International School of Geneva and has a great deal of experience in the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum. She has formally worked for the International Baccalaureate regional office in Geneva and in schools in Turkey and Portugal. Mrs Noorduijn was born in the Netherlands and educated in Holland, England and France. She speaks English, French and Dutch and has learnt Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and Turkish. She truly has an international perspective and has a personal understanding of the issues that third culture children experience.

André Beinert

André Beinert

Education:
Teaching degree for secondary schools in Mathematics and Physics Academic studies completed at the University of Dortmund

Work experience and professional focus:
Mr Beinert taught at secondary school level in Germany before his move to Singapore in 2002 when he joined the German European School Singapore in the German Section. He was promoted to Head of High School German Section in 2006. In addition to that, he was in charge of coordinating all timetables across the school. In 2009, Mr Beinert became Head of German Section and Vice Principal. In this position, he is the key person for German education at GESS. Furthermore, he gained detailed knowledge of the IB Curriculum when he taught various courses in the Diploma Programme of the IB Curriculum stream.
