Primary Years Programme (PYP)
The PYP aims to develop international individuals who are: inquirers, thinkers, communicators, risk-takers, knowledgeable, principled, caring, open-minded, well-balanced, and reflective.
At the heart of the PYP, major concepts are learned through a commitment to structured inquiry. Six organizing themes help teachers and children explore knowledge in depth. Each unit has a central idea which is the driving force behind the study and is supported by two to three lines of inquiry which guide the unit. Teachers and students develop key questions that are concept-based to organize the units of inquiry.
Each Kindergarten unit of inquiry would run for approximately six to eight weeks. The Kindergarten covers four units a year and rotates to a different set of four units the following year. This will ensure that the 3 to 5 year olds get to experience a full range of the Primary Years Programme at the end of their two years in Kindergarten.
The Pre-Primary however, covers six units in a year. These units cover all of the six organizing themes set out by the IB
