The English speaking Primary School offers the IBPrimary Years Programme and opened its doors in August 2005 with just over 50 students and has grown by leaps and bounds over the past ten years. With three classes at most grade levels, there are now nearly 300 students from Grade 1 through Grade 5.
We share our spacious green campus with the German Section Primary School and Pre-Primary and Toddler classes in the Pre-School department, making approximately 700 students in total on this site. With a generous football field and ample playground areas shaded by mature trees, the Junior School Campus is big enough to make exploring fun, without being overwhelming. Our close-knit and friendly community of teachers welcomes children and their families in a secure, inclusive environment that emphasises individual attention and guidance.
We were officially authorised to provide the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme in March 2009; together with our MYP- and DP-authorised Secondary School and the PYP dual language Pre-School, we make GESS an IB World School. Since then, GESS has also earned accreditation from the Council of International Schools. Our campus offers a diverse Co-Curricular Activities programme, featuring a wide range of sports - including champion football teams - technologies, visual and dramatic arts, music, and a growing selection of mother tongue languages.
Come and visit; we would be delighted to meet you and show you around.
Statement about GESS
What Parents and Students say about GESS
Samantha Lay - mother of two children (Grade 4 and 5)
"We feel very fortunate to have discovered GESS for our children six years ago. Being at GESS has enabled the children to develop both their native languages so well, and has contributed tremendously to their holistic development, as well as cultivating in them a genuine interest in current issues both at home and further afield."
The German European School Singapore (GESS) is a multi-lingual, not-for-profit, international school in Singapore with a distinct European flavour. GESS provides international education to 1,500 students of more than 50 nationalities from 18 months to 18 years. We provide education in German following the German Curriculum and English education following the IB Curriculum.
As an international and independent not-for-profit school, GESS welcomes students of any nationality, race or belief. Due to the small class sizes, teachers at GESS have the capacity to provide focused attention for each student. Applications for admissions to GESS can be submitted at any time during the academic year and acceptance is subject to availability.
As a fully fledged "IB World School" GESS delivers the PYP, MYP and DP Programme.
As "Excellent German School Abroad" GESS provides all general German school leaving degrees.
The Pre-School department provides education from 18 months to 6 years in either English or German.
GESS is one of the best international schools in Singapore. At GESS we are instilling an appreciation of life, music, sports, culture and arts among our students. We take responsibility and action for ourselves, others and our planet. Experience school life at GESS now!
The German European School Singapore (GESS) – situated on a lush green hillside in tropical Singapore - is a private school association led by an elected Board and the school management. We offer education to students aged 18 months to 18 years.

Have you ever been a student at GESS? Perhaps the school's name was German School Singapore back then? Have you ever wondered what happened to your former class mates, or where they live at the moment, but didn't have any way to contact them? Please register yourself on our Alumni Portal.
The English speaking European Section of GESS is a fully fledged International Baccalaureate World School, and one of the few in the world who are authorised to deliver the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the Diploma Programme (IBDP).
Since opening in 2005, the European Section has grown rapidly to become a school with a reputation for quality education with a strong community feel. We now have over 600 students. The vast majority of our students are European passport holders, for whom GESS represents a vital connection with home. Students are thus provided with a safe, friendly and familiar environment in which they are challenged to thrive as they grow into independent and responsible global citizens.
Our academic and pastoral programmes are designed to support this demographic and ultimately to prepare our students for returning to Europe or for entry into European universities. To this end we endeavor to support mother tongue language acquisition so that our students do not lose this vital connection with their home culture. Fortunately, given the high entry requirements into European schools and colleges, this also means that our students are especially well prepared for study all over the world, particularly North America, the UK and Australia.
The Pre-School department provides education from 18 month to 6 years in either English or German. Children are placed in groups according to their age.
Since the school was founded in 1971, the school has evolved into a school with two sections. As an accredited “Excellent German School Abroad”, the German Section of the German European School Singapore (GESS) offers all major German school leaving certificates. The European Section is an authorized IB World School offering education in English across all three IB programmes.
The German Section supports the students to develop their German roots. We give them wings for the linguistic demands of a globalized world through our differentiated English programme from grade 1 onwards. In secondary school some subjects are taught in English. Our students are benefitting from numerous bonding activities and have additional space to enjoy the internationality of the school.
Our Pre-Schooldepartment provides education from 18 month to 6 years in either English or German. Children are placed in groups according to their age.
