Excellent German School Abroad

GESS is not only offically recognized by the German Central Agency for Schools Abroad (ZfA) and authorized to deliver the German national curriculum, leading to all major German school leaving certificates, but also received a special award as "Excellent German School Abroad" in 2009 for its German education. This award was renewed in February 2014 and guarantees the recognition of our school leaving certificates by the German government and opens our students the door to getting admitted to the German university of their choice.

PASCH-School

In 2010, the German Central Agency for Schools Abroad (ZfA), together with the Goethe-Institut and the German representation in Singapore, accepted GESS into the network of PASCH - schools. This authorizes the school to award the German Language Certificate l and ll of the Education Ministers Conference (DSD). The PASCH - initiative's goal is to strengthen and internationally grow the network of German schools abroad as well as schools which offer the German Language Certificate.

Furthermore, sparking interest in modern day Germany and smoothing the way to international study groups with open exchange of ideas are desired outcomes. Every year, the school offers students of the European Section the opportunity to get their foreign language skills in German certified through the official German Language Certificate of the Education Ministers Conference.

IB World School

Since the start of the European Section in 2005, the school has become a fully accredited IB World School offering the entire range of the International Baccalaureate programmes (PYP, MYP, DB). Our students have repeatedly received IB scores above world average, which speaks for the quality and consistency of GESS's multi-faceted education. External reviews (of which the most recent took place in October 2013) positively reinforce our work.

Council of International Schools Accreditation

In 2013, GESS has been accredited by the Council of International Schools. This CIS accreditation and membership does not only show GESS' ongoing commitment to high quality international education, but also brings with it the recognition of our European Section degrees by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges in the United States of America, thereby enabling GESS graduates to apply to universities in the US with our high school diploma.

IB Curriculum

The English speaking European Section of GESS is a fully fledged International Baccalaureate World School, and one of the few in the world who are authorised to deliver the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the Diploma Programme (IBDP).

Since opening in 2005, the European Section has grown rapidly to become a school with a reputation for quality education with a strong community feel. We now have over 600 students. The vast majority of our students are European passport holders, for whom GESS represents a vital connection with home. Students are thus provided with a safe, friendly and familiar environment in which they are challenged to thrive as they grow into independent and responsible global citizens.

Our academic and pastoral programmes are designed to support this demographic and ultimately to prepare our students for returning to Europe or for entry into European universities. To this end we endeavor to support mother tongue language acquisition so that our students do not lose this vital connection with their home culture. Fortunately, given the high entry requirements into European schools and colleges, this also means that our students are especially well prepared for study all over the world, particularly North America, the UK and Australia.

The Pre-School department provides education from 18 month to 6 years in either English or German. Children are placed in groups according to their age.

German Curriculum

Since the school was founded in 1971, the school has evolved into a school with two sections. As an accredited “Excellent German School Abroad”, the German Section of the German European School Singapore (GESS) offers all major German school leaving certificates. The European Section is an authorized IB World School offering education in English across all three IB programmes.

The German Section supports the students to develop their German roots. We give them wings for the linguistic demands of a globalized world through our differentiated English programme from grade 1 onwards. In secondary school some subjects are taught in English. Our students are benefitting from numerous bonding activities and have additional space to enjoy the internationality of the school.

Our Pre-School department provides education from 18 month to 6 years in either English or German. Children are placed in groups according to their age.
